Let me tell you a story about how I met one of my best friends. I attended church one Sunday morning about two and half years ago, and it was just like any other day, until I went to pick my daughter up from her class. I remember walking into the classroom, and Kailee running up to me with excitement because she found a new friend. – She was excited to attend church but was always nervous because she didn’t know anybody; We were both new to the whole church thing. She begged me several times, while we were trying to gather her belongings and exit the room, if she could have a play date with her new friend.
Our church had a table of books on display right outside of the classroom, so of course Kailee wanted to check them out. A few minutes later Kailee ran up to me and told me I had to meet her new friends mom. I walked over and introduced myself and began talking to this woman. I found out her name was Mary Beth, she went to the Crossing Church (duh!), and that we both lived in the same town. We decided to friend each other on Facebook and exchange numbers, so that our girls could have this ‘play-date’.
A few weeks later Mary Beth invited Kailee and I over for dinner – Our girls played on the swing set, while we sat and drank wine, and talked. We could have sat there all night talking, but since it was a school night we had to cut it short. After that first play date we began talking and have become the bestest of friends.
I’m sure you’ve heard the song “God Gave Me You” by Blake Shelton…If you haven’t, check it out. I believe God placed our daughters in the same group that day so that they would become friends, and so they would bring their mommas together. This woman has sat with me, on several occasions, while I cried on her shoulder. She’s never once judged me and has always been an honest, true friend to me. It’s nice to have a friend tell you what is right for you, even if it’s not what you want to hear. I truly believe God knew that we needed each other!
From time to time we will sit and watch our girls play and reminisce about the day we met and still thank God for bringing us and our girls together. Thank you for always being there when I need a friend. XOXO
