learn to LOVE YOURSELF

Body image is how you see yourself when you look in the mirror or when you picture yourself in your mind.

Low self-esteem is something I have always lacked. This has been an issue since I was a little bitty girl. It is challenging to not get caught up in comparing yourself to these unrealistic standards because we live in a society that promotes unrealistic body ideals.

I have trained my brain to think positive thoughts when I look in the mirror (I still slip up occasionally, we all do). I used to look in the mirror and think, “Wow, why can’t I be as beautiful as (insert name here).” It’s something most women struggle with. None of us want cellulite, stretch marks, saggy belly fat, underarm flab, or crooked teeth, but it’s normal. We all want that flat belly, beautiful hair, nice straight-white teeth because that is what is constantly thrown in our face.

Learn to appreciate all that your body can do. When you look at yourself in the mirror, try to not focus on specific body parts, focus on yourself as a whole. True beauty is not about the skin you’re living in, it’s about who you are as person, how you carry yourself, and openness that makes you beautiful. Beauty is a state of mind.

The next time you start to hear those negative voices in your head that’s telling you your body isn’t good enough, shut it down. Turn those thoughts into positive thoughts! Stop comparing yourself to others and you will begin to love yourself & body more.

“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.”
